About this visa
Entry to the US Diversity Visa (DV) program depends on two main tests. The first is your country of birth, which must be on that year's list of eligible countries - nations that send large numbers of migrants to the US are excluded.
The second is an education or work requirement: you generally need either the equivalent of a completed high-school education, or two years of qualifying work experience within the last five years in an occupation that requires training or experience.
If your own country of birth is not eligible, you may sometimes qualify through the country of birth of a spouse or, in limited cases, a parent. We confirm your eligibility before you enter.
This may suit you if
- You were born in an eligible country
- You have a high-school education, or
- You have qualifying recent work experience
- You want to check before entering
