Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186)

Permanent residency for skilled workers nominated by their employer.

Overview

About this visa

The Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) is a permanent residence visa for skilled workers whose employer nominates them for an ongoing, full-time role. It is one of the most direct employer-sponsored routes to permanent residency.

The visa has two main streams: the Direct Entry stream, for people applying from outside the transition pathway, and the Temporary Residence Transition stream, for those who have already worked for their sponsor on an eligible visa for the required period.

As a permanent visa, the ENS gives you and your included family members the right to live, work and study indefinitely, access to healthcare arrangements, and a pathway to citizenship once you meet the residency requirements.

This may suit you if

  • You have an employer willing to nominate you permanently
  • Your occupation is eligible for the scheme
  • You meet the skills, experience and English requirements
  • You want permanent residency from the outset or after transition

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a job offer before I apply?
For most employer-sponsored visas, yes - the process starts with an approved employer nominating you for a genuine position. We can advise on your options and help both you and your employer meet the requirements.
Can an employer-sponsored visa lead to permanent residency?
Yes. Several temporary work visas are designed as a stepping stone to permanent residency through employer nomination or the regional pathway. We plan the temporary visa with the permanent outcome in mind from day one.
How long will my application take?
Processing times vary by visa type and change regularly, and they depend on your documents and personal circumstances. We give you a realistic, up-to-date estimate for your situation and keep you informed while the case is assessed.
Can I include my family?
Many visas let you include a partner and dependent children, either together with your application or by adding them later. We confirm exactly who you can include and prepare their documents alongside yours.
Do I have to visit your office in Jalandhar?
No. We work with clients across India and around the world. Your case can be handled entirely by phone, email and video call if that is easier for you.
