Partner visa - onshore (subclasses 820/801)

For partners already in the country - temporary then permanent.

Overview

About this visa

The onshore partner visa lets the spouse or de facto partner of a citizen or permanent resident live in the country while their application is processed. It is one application decided in two stages.

You are first granted a temporary visa (820), which lets you live and work while your case continues, and later the permanent visa (801) once the relationship and other requirements are satisfied.

Success depends heavily on demonstrating a genuine and continuing relationship, so we help you build strong, consistent evidence and prepare the statements that tell your story clearly.

This may suit you if

  • You are in a genuine married or de facto relationship
  • You are onshore at the time of application
  • Your partner is a citizen or permanent resident

Frequently asked questions

What evidence do we need for a partner visa?
Partner cases are decided on the quality of your relationship evidence, usually grouped into financial, household, social and commitment aspects. We help you assemble consistent, genuine evidence and prepare clear relationship statements.
Who can sponsor a family member?
Sponsorship rules differ by visa, but sponsors are generally citizens or permanent residents who meet age, character and - for some visas - financial requirements. We confirm sponsor eligibility and any Assurance of Support before you apply.
How long will my application take?
Processing times vary by visa type and change regularly, and they depend on your documents and personal circumstances. We give you a realistic, up-to-date estimate for your situation and keep you informed while the case is assessed.
Can I include my family?
Many visas let you include a partner and dependent children, either together with your application or by adding them later. We confirm exactly who you can include and prepare their documents alongside yours.
Do I have to visit your office in Jalandhar?
No. We work with clients across India and around the world. Your case can be handled entirely by phone, email and video call if that is easier for you.
